National Tent House Launched The New UNEF Tent At AIDEX 2024, Geneva

The eco-friendly UNEF Tent combines sustainability, durability, and comfort for displaced communities worldwide.

Palexpo, Geneva – 23-24 October 2024National Tent House (NTH), in partnership with UNHCR, is proud to announce its newly designed UNEF Tent, an eco-friendly shelter made from recycled materials. This innovation demonstrates our dedication to support both humanitarian efforts and environmental preservation while upholding the highest standards of durability and quality. The UNEF Tent by National Tent House is developed using recycled materials and incorporates sustainability into every part of its construction while meeting the various demands of displaced communities in different climates.

Core Sustainability Features

The UNEF Tent is a significant step forward in ecologically conscious shelter design by using post-consumer recycled (PCR) and post-industrial recycled (PIR) materials. These recycled components not only decrease environmental effect but also adheres to circular economy principles such as reusability and waste minimization. The efficient packing and  tent design also makes it possible to send more tents in a single shipment, resulting in less carbon footprint emissions. The tent’s sustainable packaging avoids single-use plastics, and is  designed for reuse, further contributing to waste reduction.

The outer fabric consists of a mix of virgin and recycled polyethylene (PE), with at least 15% of the material coming from recycled sources. The UNEF tent is also equipped with an inner liner and a bathtub style stitched polyethylene ground sheet. The inner tent can be made of a mixture of virgin and recycled breathable poly-cotton fabric or a 100% polyester yarn. It is manufactured with fire, water, anti fungi, and UV resistance features in accordance with international standards and certifications that includes:

  • Fire resistance – EN13823-A1 & CPAI 84 Standards.
  • No antimony and bromine flame retardant compounds used, promoting environmental responsibility.
  • Water resistance – ISO 811 standards
  • UV resistance – ASTM G53 and ISO 1421-1 standards
  • Fungi Resistant- Easy to Clean and Disinfect

These features and standards ensure quality, strong protection against a variety of environmental risks and long-term durability in a variety of climates.

National Tent House’s commitment to safety and sustainability ensures that the UNEF Tent meets the highest humanitarian shelter standards.

Enhanced Comfort And Safety

UNEF Tent not only offers resilience in harsh environments, it’s designed for comfort and practicality. The tent features a spacious 16 m² central living area, complemented by two 3.5 m² vestibules, offering a total internal space of 23 m². This layout can comfortably house up to five people and meets the humanitarian guideline of 3.5 m² per person for both hot and cold regions. It requires three persons to assemble and can be fully assembled in 15-20 minutes

Built with comfort in mind, the UNEF Tent is designed with wide windows and vents that allow for optimal airflow and regulate the internal climate, making the tent ideal for all climates. When assembled the tent is capable of withstanding wind speeds of up to 75 km/h also making it a first choice solution during storms and windy weather conditions.

Despite its sturdy design it remains  lightweight at approximately 50 kg for ease of transport and handling. Additionally, the UNEF Tent is designed with product longevity in mind, lasting up to 3 years in all climates and boasting a shelf life of 5 years under standard warehouse conditions.

NTH also offers winterization kits and stove as an additional item which can be used with UNEF Tent for colder climates ensuring safety without optimizing the comfort.
